Starting When You Are Pregnant
Visits with a therapist can begin before the birth of your child. During this time, the mother has a chance to
discuss her hopes and concerns, including the normal fears of pregnancy. The therapist provides emotional
support to the mother as she prepares to welcome the new baby in to their family. Visits continue into the
child's first year and beyond as needed. After the birth the therapist meets with both mother and baby.
Starting With Older Children
Sessions can also start after birth as parents feel the need. Our therapists are trained to meet the needs of
families with toddlers and young children.
How Many Visits You Can Expect
The number of visits per week varies with each person and will be established with the individual's therapist.
Cost
The cost of working with a Secure Beginnings therapist is determined by the individual therapist and the
family.
Topics typically discussed with your therapist include:
- The intense emotions you feel about your baby
- How the baby is affecting other important relationships
- Concerns about the baby's health and development
- Memories of your own childhood that come up while parenting
- How to create the kind of relationship with your baby that will help her thrive physically and mentally
